The phase “Quis custodiet ipsos custodes,”is a Latin phrase translated as “Who watches the watchmen”, “Who watches the watchers”, “Who will guard the guards”, “Who shall watch the watchers themselves”, or something similar. Regulatory agencies and watchdog groups are meant to protect people from the potential harms that organisations can inflict, intentionally or unintentionally. How can we be sure that these organisations are acting in our best interest? What are some of the potential conflicts of interest? Explain what must be done in terms of creating and maintaining ethical culture, leadership, and practices to ensure that such agencies and groups are capable of protecting people. What practices can these agencies and watchdog groups use to protect people? Provide examples from the Better Business Bureau case and at least two additional examples from other cases we covered during the course (you choose) that illustrates the need for accountability among these watchdogs.
